There are a lot of things competing for your limited time these days. Family, career, chores, errands, school and the list goes on.
How in the world do you ever fit in the time to prepare healthy meals? It takes a little planning and a little preparation but it can be done.
We like to focus on helping you get Big Wins especially in the areas of health and fitness.
You don't need to get every single detail of the Paleo Lifestyle exactly right. You just need to focus on the Big Wins that get you 90% of the fantastic health benefits and fitness results.
When we look at meal planning we don't look at it as an all or nothing type of scenario. If you have a job and a family it is probably really hard to think about planning every single meal for the week.
If your family just did the standard three meals a day that would be 21 meals you would have to plan and prepare each week. That can seem like a lot.
But what if we could just get to a point where we thoughtfully planned just paleo dinners for the week?
Big Win: Just Plan Paleo Dinners Each Week
We're going to focus on helping you plan delicious Paleo Dinners for each day of the week. But first, let's examine some of the issues with planning paleo breakfasts and lunches.
Let's break down breakfast real quick. Chances are you're in a hurry in the morning. You're trying to get the family out the door to get them to work and to school. Do you have time to cook up fancy breakfasts every morning? No.
Now, if you had a few minutes the night before you might be able to whip up some egg muffins or something that could easily be eaten on the road. Bottom line is that time is short in the morning.
Now onto lunch. Lunch is usually a meal that is enjoyed at our desks or on our way to running the next errand or meeting the next client. It's usually not planned.
What you can do is make sure you are a little bit more thoughtful about lunch the night before your busy day. As you'll see shortly, if you make an extra serving or two of your dinner entree, you should have plenty of leftovers to pack for lunch the next day. That's how we do it and it works great!
For most families dinner is the meal of the day where everyone comes together to enjoy a healthy meal and unwind. Of course, that's how we picture it in our minds.
But usually what happens is there are no plans for what to actually make for dinner. So when one of the kids asks, "What's for dinner?" You're left scratching your head and opening up the pantry to a mixed bag of ingredients and options, none of which seem to go together.
At this point, the family may just decide to go out to eat, which can get expensive and is not ideal.
You also realize the need to mix it up a bit because you're getting the, "I swear if you feed me chicken one more time" look from the rest of the family. But you don't want to become one of those people that is making a different meal for every member of the family... it's not practical or sustainable.
So what is the solution?
Here's How You Can Plan Your Paleo Dinners for the Week Quickly and Easily
We're giving you two ways to go through the 5-step paleo meal planning process. The '(A)' process is using the PrimalPal system to simplify the entire process. The '(B)' process is the manual way to do things.
1(a): Sign up to PrimalPal and open up your user friendly weekly meal planner. Use the search to find meals that match up with what you have stocked in the pantry or freezer. If you want to try something new you can just browse the recipe database until you find something you like.
If anyone in the family has food allergies you can make note of that in the food preferences page to make it even easier to find meals the whole family will enjoy.
1(b): Buy a bunch of Paleo Cookbooks or Spend hours surfing the web looking for recipes that fit your family's tastes and health goals. Make sure that you don't include any meals that contain ingredients you or someone in your family are allergic to.
By the way... 1(b) is the way we use to do it. It's not as easy and it's difficult to keep doing it every week. It also leads to eating a lot of the same things because it seems hard to look for different meals each week.
We still love Paleo Cookbooks and there a ton of good ones. Even if you have a PrimalPal membership, cookbooks are a fun way to expand your cooking knowledge and skills.
2(a): In PrimalPal you've dragged and dropped your meals to the appropriate days of the week. Now you may want to adjust the serving sizes of those meals to ensure you make enough food. Just look at each meal you planned and if the number of servings doesn't seem like enough for your family you can increase it.
PrimalPal will take care of all the calculations for you to ensure you have the proper amount of ingredients. It's that easy.
At this point you can print your weekly dinner plan out to put up on the fridge or message board or just leave it saved within PrimalPal.
2(b): Write all of your recipes down for the the week. Make sure to put this somewhere so you don't lose it.
If there is a recipe you need to adjust the serving size for then you might want to get your calculator out and get to work. Hopefully you're good at fractions. You don't want anyone going hungry because there wasn't enough food.
3(a): .Now go to your shopping list and you'll see that all of your ingredients are already pre-filled into the proper categories for easy shopping. You can also see the recipe each ingredient goes with by looking at the simple recipe key on the left of the shopping list.
You can go through your shopping list and check off any items that you already have available. Now simply print out your shopping list or send it to your email so you can pull it up on your phone or tablet. Doesn't it feel good to save time?
3(b): This is where you really get to work. You need to now go through all the recipes you planned and you need to construct a shopping list. We suggest getting a blank piece of paper and start writing out ingredients. Of course some of the recipes will call for some of the same ingredients so make sure to take that into account.
You'll also want to make sure you cross things off your list if you already have them available. Again, keep your shopping list in a safe place so you don't lose it before going to the store.
4(a&b): Take your list and go to the store. If you used PrimalPal and you emailed your list to yourself you can simply pull it up on your phone. How convenient!
5(a): Now that you've built your plan and went shopping it's time to start making your delicious Paleo dinners. In PrimalPal simply open your weekly meal planner screen and click on the recipe you have planned for that evening.
You can print out the recipe or leave it up on the screen. Either way, everything you need is right at your fingertips so you can start cooking.
Since PrimalPal automatically puts your shopping list together you can rest assured you will have every ingredient you need!
5(b): Hopefully you have some sort of system to keep track of all the recipes you planned for the week. Now go back and find the one you planned for this particular evening. Hopefully you didn't forget to add an ingredient to your list when you were writing everything out.
That's it! Those are the five steps to quickly and easily planning your Paleo dinners for the week.
We believe PrimalPal will make this process so much easier on you.
You'll save time because you aren't doing everything manually and you'll know what is on the dinner menu for the week before it's dinner time.
