This post is Rated R... for Romantic. Get your mind out of the gutter!
As Tim Ferris says in his book the 4-Hour Chef (highly recommended), "Cooking is THE mating advantage. If you're looking to dramatically improve your sex life, or catch and keep "the one," cooking is the force multiplier. Food has a crucial role in well-planned seduction for both sexes, whether in long-term relationships or on first dates."
Preparing a meal for that special someone shows them that you love them and that you still aim to impress. It shows that you're able to nurture and take care of them.
Guys, if you need some convincing... here's a quote (among many others) from a hubpages forum about guys that can cook...
"Ahhh, a man that can cook is sexy, and a man that can cook well is even better! A man that prepares a romantic meal for a woman shines with masculinity. As a woman, I say-"medium well please!!!" -lizy625
And ladies... I only need to point to the old English proverb: "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach."
I don't care who is doing the cooking or the wooooo-ing this Valentine's day but I say screw the busy restaurants and the cliche boxes of chocolates.
Grab a great bottle of red wine, dim the lights, fire up the range and prepare something memorable.
Create an evening that's an experience and not just another meal. Have a soundtrack ready to go. Maybe some new stuff from Adele, Bruno Mars, Michael Buble or Frank Ocean. Sometimes just sticking to the classics is best. Coltrane?
Whatever you do, turn off all outside distractions... this is going to be good.
And guys, have at least a single red rose on hand for your date.
Top Paleo Foods That Are Also Aphrodisiacs
There was a purpose for each of the recipes I chose. Each one incorporates foods that are considered to be aphrodisiacs. How naughty.
Some foods are considered aphrodisiacs based on their aromas, chemical basis and even... eh-hem... shape.
Did you know that in Middle Eastern cuisine, lamb is considered an aphrodisiac and is served in huge helpings to the groom on his wedding night. Lamb is rich in zinc which is reported to help raise testosterone levels.
Don't forget dark chocolate which is loaded with stimulants and neurotransmitters that can mimic falling in love and orgasms.
As a bonus to being aphrodisiacs these recipes are paleo friendly so you won't get the after dinner bloat and you'll be light on your feet for... after dinner activities. :)
Plus, if you've been living a paleo lifestyle for any significant amount of time you're probably proud to show off just how good you look naked.
Now, let's get to the recipes that are sure to impress and entice that special someone.
The Art of Paleo Seduction - Paleo Valentine's Day Recipes
Here are the recipes I selected from various sources. Enjoy!
To start you can go with an excellent dish of Avocados with Warm Bacon Parsley Vinaigrette. This recipe calls for one teaspoon of sugar but I would suggest using a little bit of honey instead. Honey is also considered an aphrodisiac due to it's high vitamin B complex and amino acid content.
If the avocados aren't your thing you can go with a tasty appetizer of Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus from the delightful Nom Nom Paleo.
Now onto the main event. I have three dishes for you to consider and two of them incorporate lamb.
The first one is a classic Osso Buco recipe from Paleo Nick. He has a great write up on this recipe complete with a short video. Definitely worth checking out. It looks amazing.
The next main course dish that incorporates lamb is a Rack of Lamb and Caribbean Plantains. This. Looks. Phenomenal. I found this on the Ingredients of a Woman blog.
My final suggestion for a main course comes from the Primally Inspired blog. It's a Stuffed Flank Steak that is getting rave reviews. If you don't want to swing lamb I think this dish could be your ticket.
I didn't get too carried away with side dishes. One simple side that I found that would go well with any of these main dishes is Asparagus with Asiago. Simple and easy.
If you're going with either of the lamb dishes I would recommend a Pinot Noir. Something big and bold will go nicely with the taste of the lamb. Here's a good list of well priced Pinots.
With the steak I would go with a Cabernet. Can't go wrong with this pairing. Here's a list to help you find something nice.
Valentine's Day Dessert Recipes
Now we're on to the money makers. The desserts. No Valentine's Day feast would be complete without something sweet to get all those feel good chemicals flowing.
My first recommendation is the Grain Free Almond Coconut Truffle Tart from Neo-Homesteading. It's my first recommendation for dessert because it looks absolutely amazing. If you were to take just one suggestion from this post, make it this one.
Not to worry if the truffle isn't your thing. I have a few other ideas. Like the Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Cups from Freckled Italian. I'm a sucker for Reese's so these would be a big hit with me.
These Dark Chocolate Cookie Cups with Strawberry Creme from The Foodie and the Family look delicious as well.
And for the final paleo dessert recipe and probably the most simple... Chocolate Covered Strawberries from Paleo Betty. You can't miss with this classic.
I hope this has inspired you to cancel the reservations and opt for a night-in filled with primal food and activities. Just make sure that you send the kids to grandmother's house for the night.
Happy Valentine's Day!
