It's time for another Free Paleo Meal Plan Friday! I know it's your favorite time of the week because we do all the hard work of creating a delicious paleo meal plan and then we just give it away. All you have to do is print it out, buy your ingredients and create delicious paleo meals.
Before we get to the free paleo meal plan I want to address a topic that keeps popping up... finding time to cook.
Michael Pollan Tells Us All to Start Cooking More
Michael Pollan was in town yesterday and we ventured out in the cold, "Spring", weather to listen to him talk about his new book entitled, Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation.
I'm going to write a more in depth review about his talk and possibly the book in the near future. I really just want to address this lack of time that everyone is suffering from that prevents us from cooking real meals with real food.
Pollan defined a "meal" as something that is actually prepared and cooked by humans. Not something invented in a lab and packaged up nicely for you to pop in the microwave.
You have two alternatives according to Pollan, enjoy meals cooked by actual humans or let big corporations do the cooking for you. Unfortunately, it seems that a lot of people are more than happy to let big corporations cook their meals.
He went on to explain that there has been a cultural shift in how much time people spend cooking. We just aren't cooking as much as we used to. The amount of time we spend in the kitchen cooking our meals has been cut in half. Pollan also talked about some studies that showed a inverse correlation between the amount of time people spend cooking and obesity rates.
I agree with his view that if we start to enjoy cooking more with real ingredients that we would see a lot less people struggling with their weight and health. I understand that having time is a factor but I refuse to believe that we have all become so busy and so important that we can't cook at least one if not two meals for our families every day.
